Likes:
- Overall, Avengers 2.5 is a good film. They packed a lot of complex relationships into their longest movie yet and used characters and subplots from the previous films to tie things together and move the franchise along.
- The consequences in Civil War were refreshingly realistic. Scarlet Witch suffers from the guilt of accidentally killing innocent civilians and Tony misguidedly tries to protect her from government retaliation. Also, Rhodey’s hard fall reminds the audience of the Avengers’ dangerous friendly fire. But going down from that height should have definitely killed him…
- Both sides had good arguments for and against signing the Sokovia Accords. Captain America will always stay loyal to what he believes is good and right, and it doesn’t play out ridiculously so in Civil War. And Tony holding himself responsible for the damage he and the Avengers do aligns perfectly with the whole reason he became Iron Man.
Dislikes:
- How many fight scenes were in this movie? Too many. Too many fight scenes.
- So the other winter soldiers were kept in some super secret lair that no one could find except Zemo and Bucky, but Sam is able to give Tony the exact coordinates? Okay.
- Let me get this straight: Zemo plotted for years to tear the Avengers apart from within, and to do so involved assuming they would find out about the other winter soldiers, know how to get to them, and then have Captain America and Iron Man both be there so he could show them some security camera footage and make them fight. Which, even if he planned on releasing the footage at a later date…the whole Civil War aspect started before and separate from Bucky. They would have been fighting anyway. Just with fewer action sequences.
