- A Stark family reunion! That has nothing to do with Tony! And there’s a Sersi…but not that Cersei…dang, the MCU is getting big.
- Don’t know if the stakes can get much higher than “gargantuan being erupting out of Earth’s core and shattering the planet.” Let’s see what Marvel comes up with next time.
- Superman, Batman, and Batman’s butler, Alfred, are all referenced here, making some nerds cream their pants in excitement that the MCU and DCEU are connected somehow. But it’s unlikely both universes exist in tandem. In the MCU, DC heroes likely still only live in comic books. But it’s funny to see Marvel flexing on DC like that.
Dislikes:
- People complain when Marvel comes out with “filler” movies only meant to build up to the next marquee movie in that phase. And while we should be rejoicing that Eternals is firmly a standalone film (for now), its impact hit with a resounding…meh. It’s a challenge to make a compelling story while also introducing ten new characters at once. Even the first Avengers didn’t start off with that many people, and that was after years of buildup.
- DC takes its universe very. seriously. And it works for them. Not for Marvel. I want the witty banter, the jokes, the cameos, the constant wink-wink-nudge-nudge of 5,000 Easter eggs that send fans into a speculating frenzy. Eternals delivered on some of these, but the overall feel was a diversion from the MCU standard.
- Ikaris flies into the sun. How fitting. And what a drama queen.
